What a month!
Howdy everyone, it's your friendly neighborhood Rex filling in for Edda who has been so overwhelmed by everything that ought to go into this post that she keeps putting it off. I can't blame her.
So shortly after informing everyone of how cute our fuzzball is, we took a road trip to spend Christmas with Edda's parents. The trip was wonderful. The kids behaved, the roads were clear, it was perfect. We felt it would be an omen of good things to come for the holiday season.
The first of our many character building experiences happened when I received my rejection letter from MIT. That letter represented the last of my hopes for getting into business school this year and marked the sixth rejection for the year. However, I hardly had any time to mope at all (which was the only plan I had left at the time), because Aiden went from having a bad cold to not being able to breath. We took him to urgent care, which then sent us to the ER. Aiden was then transferred to a children's hospital in Tulsa. Turns out he has asthma. Edda and I took turns hanging out with the kid for the next few days in the hospital (two nights in all) and we ran ourselves ragged.

From Edda: He may look cute, little, and innocent in this picture, but this kid was HYYYYYY-IIIIII-PER! The breathing treatments they gave him made him, quite literally, bounce off the walls. Trying to entertain this kid in the hospital was no little task. We had fun pushing around the laundry hamper, jumping on the bed (shh! don't tell the nurses), running down the halls until Aiden couldn't breathe again, and tripping on IV cords while trying to make a run for it when the door opened.
When we finally had a chance to breath, we attended Brian and Jen's (Edda's bro and sis-in-law) Christmas party. When we came home, we found Sam couldn't breath. So we then spent a night with him in the ER. He was diagnosed with mild pneumonia. We brought him home and learned how to properly torture him by filling his nose gradually with saline over five minutes followed by intense nose bulb action. The screaming was so bad Sylvia (Edda's mom) had to leave the room and plug her ears whenever it went down. However, the nurses were right and he got better quickly.
Christmas happened, and despite being exhausted, it was wonderful. Sylvia always works herself so hard to try and make it a wonderful holiday for everyone and we truly enjoyed ourselves.
Two days after Christmas we came home, again, no events. A very smooth ride. The next day, however, was McKae's (my sister's) temple endowment, followed by a bridal shower that Edda was hosting. The temple was wonderful and word on the street is that Edda threw a good shower (she didn't do it by herself, lots of others involved). We took the next day off. Then on New Year's Eve we drove the treacherous roads to Utah.
Those treacherous roads were a lot worse than I thought, and about 6 miles before we reached Vail the car started drifting toward the median, then it eventually hit the median, the car went out of control and smashed into the snow on the other side of the road. The airbags deployed and the little car was no more. Our little Honda, "Big Momma" we called her, was a good little girl who served us well until the end. No one was hurt, seat belts work. We got a tow, rented a car, and continued on to Utah.

Here's the "two-face" version of Big Momma. The passenger side looks completely normal while the driver's side has this huge chunk taken out of it. I'll never forget Rex's calm statement before we hit the median. "I'm going to hit that." So serenely. So resolutely.
Edda fell a sleep way before midnight, and I spent the New Year's moment researching cars. On New Year's day my sainted mother and my siblings cared for the boys and we bought a new car. We got a 2008 Toyota Sienna LE.
McKae got married, people were happy, nobody died. We came home to our wonderful house and now we are peacefully waiting for the bills to start rolling in.
Edda's New Year's resolution: Don't get pregnant this year.
My New Year's resolution: Don't end this year like last's.
Rex out.

I can't believe what a crazy month it was for you guys. Lame about MIT and all the other grad schools, Rex. They have no idea what they are missing out on!
What car did you guys buy?
Sorry about the car. I love Rex's calmness, too- 'Im going to hit that'- that's pretty awesome.
And love the new years resolutions. :) Those made me smile.
