A Fall Drive to Tarryall

Rex, bless his heart, humored me one weekend and drove all of us to Tarryall to see the Fall leaves in the mountains.

We stopped for a picnic while we figured out where we were.  The boys were troopers and slung their lunchboxes over their shoulders with sticks like some runaways.

There were some fun rocks for the boys to climb on and show off their muscles.

After lunch and asking for directions from this really cute old man at the  Fire Station, we hiked "China Wall."  Supposedly we were pretty dumb to hike this on foot.  We didn't even make it all the way (curse inaccurate websites!) but at least we had some good "character building" moments. :)

Off the trail there was an old abandoned mine.  You could see through the grates about 20 feet down or so.  Tarryall used to be a gold mining town so there were old mines everywhere.  The boys thought this was pretty cool.

This was our turning point.  Here I am trying to see if we could see China Wall at all.

I think this was it - or at least the first bits of it.  Supposedly it's a rock formation that's long and wall-y... ya know, like the China Wall.  We called it good enough because we were hot and tired and were running out of water fast.

What a hunk-a-hunk-a man I have!

The drive back home was pretty.  We drove past a forge where some people were fly fishing.  We dipped our feet in and enjoyed the beautiful waterfall.

Cade wanted to jump in the river so badly.  What mean parents we are!

I think I'm addicted to Colorado's beauty now. :)

ADDENDUM:
After some much better research, I have discovered we weren't even CLOSE to China Wall.  Supposedly, this is what it really looks like.
