Mom's One Line a Day - March 2014
- On the way home from preschool, Sam asked so many darling, curious questions like, "How do you make honey?" "How do you make cars?" "How do you make a house?" "How do you make bread?" I love how kids naturally seek knowledge.
- Poor Aiden is struggling right now with... life. He cries in every Tae Kwan Do class - even during private lessons. I pray that we are doing the right things for him.
- Favorites today: Cade playing peek-a-boo inside of a blender box; Rex coming home from Missouri; Aiden describing a song he wanted to now the name of only knowing the words, "Yeahhhh." And Sam seeing me eating snap peas and cucumbers and asked for me to get him some too.
- I went hiking this morning with one of my friends in the neighborhood and had a really good talk with her where I could share my beliefs. I haven't had a spiritual experience like that in a while. Yay! Feels good.
- Sam came to me carrying a big roll of paper (from an art roll I bought) and said, "I have a 'FOUSAND drawings!" Then he unrolled it and explained what everything was: "A monkey king palace... a map... a guy in a rocket... a spider on a hat..." So creative!
- Had a great night playing a video game with Rex and another couple online. Never thought I'd say that. :) I'm so glad we found a couple in our ward as nerdy as we are. :)
- On Sam's spotlight in primary, he said his favorite thing to do with his family is Family Home Evening. Yay! We're doing something right!
- It is so fun to go to the park with the boys when it's finally sunny and warm! Cade LOVES going down slide. :)
- I m so grateful for friends who will come help me at the drop of a dime when my baby needs to be taken to the ER late at night. I'm also grateful for understanding doctors when all he had was croup. :)
- Sam has been on a writing and drawing kick which we are encouraging big time. Here's a story that he wrote and illustrated: "Once upon a time there was a ghost that scared people. And one o the people was a zombie who bit a bird. And then it was a zombie bird. The End."
- The boys and I wheeled in all the trash cans o our street to their garages as a little service project today. It was fun and the boys liked seeing that they made our street look prettier.
- Happy Pi Day! We had the Clifford's (our fellow nerd friends) over for pizza and pie to celebrate. Lots of fun. So glad we found a couple to hang out with.
- The boys got their yellow stripe belts today in Taekwondo. They got to break a board with a karate chop and they were so excited and in disbelief that they could do it. So cute.
- Aiden: "I wish I had super powers. Animals have super powers. Cheetahs can run really fast. Bush babies can see in the dark. And blue whales... blue whales have MUSCLES!!"
- Cade is a pretty good obeyer! When he does something he shouldn't and I tell him "no," he usually shakes his head and comes back to me. ::UTTER SHOCK:: Mind you, he tests it another 5 times to make sure it's still a no-no and I have to remove him.
- I taught Aiden the phrase, "See you later, Alligator." He thought about it for a minute and then said, "That's not a very good rhyme, Mom." hahaha
- I think Cade learned to say "Aiden" ("IIIii-yeh!") before saying "mom." oy
- Took a nice, leisurely walk with the boys down the hill today. At the halfway point, Sam's bike tire blew out, the boys ran into some burrs with their shoes off, which ensued murderous screams for the next 20 minutes while I picked them all off one at a time, and then we finished the uphill journey with me pulling Sam's bike with one hand and pushing Cade's stroller with the other hand. All while being serenated by Aiden's cries of how tired and hot he was while laying prostrate on the sidewalk. Such a lovely family bonding moment.
- I am so blessed to have a husband who will entertain the boys in the toy aisle while I grocery shop for the month!
- Cade raised his hands and said "Ahh-Duh!" when he was finished eating like I've been showing him how to do!! (That translates to "all done" btw.) AND YET HE STILL CAN"T SAY MOM!
- At dinner tonight, Sam took a bite of squash and declared that he didn't like it. Rex said that it was okay and he didn't have to eat it. Sam thought for a minute and then said, "Do grown-ups like this kind of stuff??"
- Ahhh, spring break. No school. No piano lessons. Nice and relaxed!
- Well it's official. I'm a nerd. Why, you ask? Because tonight I became a black mage in Final Fantasy and I feel like it's one of my life's milestones. :)
- Aiden did a very daring stunt at the skate park on his bike today and fell. He said he was just trying to be a "blossom." After much pondering on what he meant, I figured out he was trying to do something awesome, because I sometimes say "Awesome Blossom, Dude!" as a compliment. haha
- We arrived in Oklahoma last night for Spring Break. And as is tradition, we already made a trip to Urgent Care. This time it was for Cade. He has a mega ear infection and lingering croup in his lungs. At least he doesn't have pneumonia.
- In primary at my parents' church when they were introducing Aiden, they asked him if he was visiting his Grandpa Torrie. Aiden indignantly said, "No, I'm visiting my Gwampa Twicks!"
Here are some more pictures from when we spent Spring Break in Oklahoma. The boys went to the Tulsa Zoo with Austin and Kimber one day, and then another day we went to the Aquarium where Grandma Jeanie impressed us all with her paper hat folding skills using a hotdog foil wrapper. Sam took his uniform of foil hat, kids meal bag, and finger lights (gift from Gwamma that morning) pretty seriously. :)
Before we knew it, our week was over and it was time for us to fly home. I braved it by myself with the boys and they did pretty well!
And it was no surprise that as soon as Rex picked us up from the airport that they all fell soundly asleep on the way home - visiting Grandma's house sure is exhaustingly FUN!

Also, I think I'm going to say "I was just trying to be a blossom from now on!" :)
