Mom's One Line a Day - January

- We are all sick.  Took a family trip to the doctor to get each of us seen.  Cade has chicken pox (?? even though he's vaccinated!) with an ear infection.  Sam has an ear infection with strep throat.  Aiden has strep throat.  And Rex and I have some nasty nasty cold that feels like the flu but isn't.
- I have absolutely no voice.  Whispering hurts.  It's really hard being a parent when both parents are pathetically sick.  Whispered threats to the kids just don't go as far!
- Aiden's prayer at lunch: "And please bless these noodles that they will cool down quickly and that they will give us strength and holiness."  These are turning out to be some pretty impressive noodles!

- I am so thankful that Aiden had such a great attitude about his birthday today, even thought Rex and I are so sick and lethargic.  He burst into our room this morning and proclaimed "It's my birthday, Mom and Dad!" Forget the fact that we didn't wake him up with "Happy Birthday" pancakes or balloons everywhere.  Such a good kid.
Aiden was thrilled to get his very own toolbox filled with tools for his birthday.

- Cade has been waking Rex up in the mornings ever so sweetly with a gentle "play?" spoken quietly in his ear, repeated until Rex gets out of bed.
- Sam: "Mom, does blood look like... yucky?"
- Sam dropped his blankie from the top bunk at night time.  Aiden refused to get it, so Sam yelled until I came.  Then he said, "Mom, I'll love you more if you get my blankie for me."  Oh geeze...
- My parents came in to town for the weekend.  YAY!!  Dad helped me cut the boys hair by blowing the hair upwards with the blow dryer while I buzzed.  Messy, but effective!
- We celebrated Aiden's birthday by going to the new Miller Activity Center and had a BLAST! I can't believe how long my mom and dad jumped in the trampoline room with the boys.  All the (young) parents left after about 20 minutes due to back injury, asthma, or sore knees.  Go mom and Dad!

- Had a great Family Home Evening about setting spiritual and secular goals.  Our family goal is to read from the Book of Mormon every day.
- Whenever it's time to put Cade down for a nap or bedtime, he points to the recliner in his room and says, "Chair?" so he can be rocked.  But as soon as you sit down, he goes back to the bed and brings back his blankets, pillow, and Elmo to join in the rocking fun.

- Rex has been home for THREE weeks in a ROW now and it has been so so SO nice.
- I took Aiden with me to Target and stopped to get a sports bra.  He kept covering his eyes and I asked him why.  Turns out the pictures of ladies in their underwear was embarrassing him.  Good boy.  Bad mom!  He's growing up!
- Rex and I went clothes shopping today since his clothes are all too big.  SO FUN!  And Aiden got home from his first sleepover last night.  I got the impression that he had been a handful. Oh dear.
- It's been a constant day working nonstop.  How do other moms have time for crafts???
- Sam's been trying for years to surprise scare me, and he finally succeeded today.  I was carrying a full laundry basket (so I couldn't see in front of me very well) and he jumped out in front of the stairs and about scared me to death.  It was a very proud moment for him.
- Cade has started pretending he's a dinosaur/lion/fearsome-something-or-other by crawling around the house on all fours and growling.  It was simply adorable.
- The first thing Aiden says when I picked him up from school today: "MOM!  Did you know that your BUTT is the biggest muscle in your body???" And he didn't stop elaborating for the next 20 minutes.
Aiden can now read books to Sam!!

- After getting on to Sam for blaming me for everything wrong in his life (already??) he's been super sweet!  Every day this week, he's come back to the car after drop-off to say, "I really like you, Mom!"
- I went to a Relief Society women's retreat tonight and had a blast talking and laughing and eating late in the night with all the fun ladies in the ward.
- We all went to the Aurora Rec Center for cousin Jaxon's birthday today to swim.  Cade is so independent and taught himself how to dog paddle (with a life jacket on, of course.)
- I love the fact that Aiden can ask one question - followed by a couple "why?"s - and Rex is soon explaining electrons, the Kelvin scale, and resistors to him.  And Aiden just soaks it up and gets so excited to learn something new.  Such a smart man and boy!!
- Cade sure loves his broccoli!  At dinnertime he grabbed the entire serving bowl and scooped about 2 cups' worth of broccoli on to his plate, all with a mouth full of chewed up broccoli.  He just couldn't get enough!
- My master classes went well tonight! Aiden and Sam are so eager to learn.  Well, Aiden is eager and Sam gets easily frustrated and doesn't show a lot of confidence.   I sure love him, though.
- Life is good! I am feeling happy and confident.  I feel like I'm being more social and more healthy.  It's so great not to be depressed!  Go figure!
  - Last Friday, Sam's video game privileges for the weekend were revoked because he told a lie.  Every day this week in any prayer he said, he's always some form of "And I am so excited to play games on Friday!"
- Sam: Mom, I can't fin my backpack
Me:  I think it's still in the van.  Go get it.
Sam: I can't get it.  I get scared by myself.
Aiden: (who had been listening in) Take Cade with you.  The monsters will eat him first.
