March 2015
Cade has been on a sleep strike starting this month (still going on...) and refuses to take naps and stay in his room at night. As a result, he tends to crash in random spots around the house. This is what I came across when I came out of the shower.
Little muddy bums are so cute in springtime.
Along with the sleep strikes, Cade has been "finding himself" in any way he can. Anything I suggest he do - such as "let's change your diaper" or "put your legs in your pants" or "want some applesauce?" - he refuses to do out of principle, even if it's something he actually likes but just doesn't want to give me the satisfaction of winning. This was the only way he would let me dress him this morning - a Woody cowboy costume with a Luigi costume tied on as a cape. It was a compromise after I wouldn't let him wear his pants on his head all day.
These are the notes mothers live for. I found this in Aiden's take-home folder. It says:
"Aiden P. was on red today... because jack said after I gave him a talk of plus (help with a math problem, come to find out later) "your a idiot" then I said "your SO a idiot as a baby diaper... and I was disturbing the class by yawning."
During Spring Break I took the boys to the Denver Art Museum since kids were free admission. The boys made a postcard from the wild, wild west post office to mail to their Grandma Jeanie. The art exhibits didn't hold their attention much (shocker) but they had a great kids area where they could play with toys and play dress-up as historical figures. Outside there was a ginormous broom statue that the boys thought was so cool. I probably shouldn't have let them climb on it, but it was such a "Honey I shrunk the kids" moment that I couldn't resist.
Aiden and Sam got crafty one day with their K'Nex and built a double towered skyrail. They're good little building buddies.
On the last day of Spring Break, I wanted to go on a family camping trip to the National Dinosaur Monument in northwestern Colorado. We were all packed and excited to go. Not 15 minutes into our drive, Cade threw up. We pulled over and cleaned him up. After a lot of debate, we decided to keep on going and if he threw up again, we would turn around and go home. Two hours later, Sam started complaining of an upset tummy. We didn't want to push our luck further so we turned around and went home. I was pretty bummed about the whole fiasco, so Rex took the initiative to suggest we all go to the park for a picnic and fly kites. (The boys were robustly healthy once we got home... go figure.) It improved my sour mood immensely.
Also this month, I lost my wedding ring. I tore the house apart looking everywhere for it, but came up short handed. I'm pretty sure it got thrown away by a certain toddler running loose who tends to throw valuable items into trashcans. After weeks of no luck finding it, Rex took me to a jewelry story and got me this GORGEOUS replacement. I didn't consciously mean to, but I ended up picking a ring that was the exact same style as my original ring, just a different metal with filigree. I LOVE it!!!
We went hiking with the Cliffords at Roxborough State Park towards the end of the month. Cade has this funny tendency to completely ignore me when there are other women around. When he wasn't strapped to my back, he only wanted to hold Lesa's hand and completely shunned me. Crazy funny kid! All other times, he's a complete Momma's boy and doesn't let me out of his sight.
