August Tidbits

I am playing major catch-up here, so bear with me as I fuddle my way through all these pictures and memories.

Cade turned 9 months on the 9th.  He has 4 teeth and drools a TON.  His neck is constantly wet and red even though I try to put bibs on him every second of the day.  He is still a happy, chubby baby who can now crawl like a pro!

Aiden and Sam started school.  Sam is on his second year of preschool and Aiden finally reached the very coveted position of KINDERGARTNER!  He has been dreaming of this moment for years.

When I asked Aiden how his first day of school was, he said, "Uh... I don't remember.  It was so long."  That half day of school can be quite traumatizing apparently.

We had a solid week (or two? can't remember) of heavy rain.  Aiden seized the opportunity to go worm hunting with Sam.

They didn't have much luck finding worms.  In Aiden's prayer at dinner that night, he said in his most pious voice,
"Jesus, we went looking for worms today and d'are weren't any.  Uh... where are da worms?"

And the Cader-ator is still just the cutest thing ever.  Everywhere we go, without fail, someone comments on his chubbiness/cuteness and asks if they can take him home with them.  I don't blame them, honestly.  Good thing he's ours!

I don't remember why Sam is at the doctor's office in this picture, but I do remember having several moments of panic thinking that my children were dying from some horrible disease and needed medical attention right away, only to have the doctor look them over and say that they're completely fine.  Honestly, I have the most rotten luck telling when my kids are actually sick or not.  You'd think by the look on Sam's face here that I would have picked up a clue or two...

While at the park after school, Aiden took up shop and was selling sand to anyone who came by.  He set his price at $12 per handful.  When an unfortunate kid agreed to pay Aiden the money, Aiden said, "Fank you!  Now we're closed."  Poor kid didn't even get his sand.

Along with all the other various errands you have to run at the beginning of the school year, we also stopped by to get the boys' annual teeth cleaning.  I don't know why I feel like they're going to be scared or something and that they need me in there.  When I peeked my head in their rooms, this is what I saw:  both boys completely in heaven watching TV up on the ceiling and completely oblivious to any instrument that was put in their mouth.  I gotta admit that I'm a bit envious of their dentist visits..

While I was out running more errands one Saturday, I came home to a screaming Cade and a frazzled Rex.  Oh, and blood.  Turns out that Cade pulled a little lap table onto himself and the metal bar underneath it sliced his nose.  We called the doctor but they said that he wouldn't need stitches.  I kinda wish we were more persistent because he now has a lovely scar there.  Maybe it will add a rugged look to his chubby cheeks now...

And here are a couple "Overheard at our House" quotes that I was able to write down this month:

Overheard in the car on the way home from school
Sam: Aiden, geth what? Ants only like ant movies.  A-a-a-nd dey don't like odder movies which are
violent.
Aiden: But they like Wild Kratts (a PBS animal show they're really into now)
Sam: Yup

At the dinner table on a night I prepared fish for dinner, hoping to expand the boys' taste palette
Me: Aiden, do you like the fish?  Why don't you try a bite?
Aiden hesitantly licks the fish, takes a teeny tiny bite, and chews slowly.
Me: Well...?  Do you like it?
Aiden: Yes! I like fish!
Then he gets up from the table and promptly throws the fillet in the trash.

Sam: May I have more 'nolk' please?
Me: It's Muh-milk.  MMM-ilk.  Milk!
Sam: Oh.  May I have MMMMM-ore NNNolk please?

Aiden's prayer at dinner one night
Aiden:... And please bless dad that he will come home and cook for us

In the car, once again...
Sam: Mom!  Yer can dwive wif one hand??
Mom: Yes
Sam: dramatic whisper Aiden! He can dwive wif one hand!!
Aiden: Wowwwwww!

Haha, this is so wonderful. I wish I had these for the last few years with our family. I think my favorite was the prayer that Rex would come home and cook!
