All Things Halloween

Cade started off the Halloween spirit while still in Oklahoma when he found Gwamma's treasure chest of costumes.  He LOVES to drape things around his neck and put things on his head.  (He had help, of course, with this get-up.)

I found this cute idea from Pinterest (duh! where else??) to get white beach balls and make eyes out of them for your bushes.  I think I'll get some bigger eyes for this monster-of-a-bush for next year.  After drawing the pupils a little bit bigger after taking this picture, our bush looked like a muppet character.  The kids in the neighborhood loved it!

Aiden's school put on a Carnival before Halloween, so the boys got to dress up early.  Sam was the Hulk (which is very hard for a 4 year old to say!  He kept calling himself "Hook" all night.)  And Aiden was Captain America.  They didn't really know who they were at the time so Rex decided to educate them before impersonating them in public.  He let the boys watch the fight scene from "The Avengers" before leaving for the Carnival and both the boys agreed that the Hulk was much cooler than Captain America.  Aiden kept asking what the shield did besides block blows.  As a mom trying to make sure both of my boys felt equally cool, I really had a hard time trying to sell the fact that Captain America's boomerang shield was just as awesome as the Hulk's smashing abilities.  Aiden took it in stride, though, and was posing with his shield to anyone who would look his way.

Cade was an adorable little dragon.  I know I could have made him into the world's cutest Pilsbury Dough Boy, or a Harley Davidson biker man, or even turn him into an old man with a walker... but this was not the year to be creative.  He was still cute, though, even if I did just take the easy way out and bought his costume.

And Rex and I actually put some thought into our costumes this year.  Can you tell who we are??  Here's a hint:

We are going to be Lucy and Charlie Brown for every year now because I spent way too much time and money on making our costumes!!

I was absolutely shameless this year and used trick-or-treating as a marketing ploy to get my piano studio name out there.  I bought about 200 bags of Halloween Cheetos and stapled a "Happy Halloween from Edda's Piano Studio" note on each one.  Sam really liked being buried by all the bags of cheetos in the grocery cart when I got them. :)

And although we did not take Cade trick-or-treating around the neighborhood with us, he definitely enjoyed the spoils.  He'd find the leftover candy every moment he could and dig out his favorite - SUCKERS!  He'd suck on the wrapper until it came off and then continue to suck the Dum-Dum in his mouth until the stick was a mushy mess of paper and the candy was just barely visible.  Talk about heaven!
