One Rockin' Pi Day

Those who know me know that I am a math nerd at heart. Always have been. Always will be. So when March 14th rolls around, I get very excited inside and have a sudden desire to eat pie. (March 14 --> 3/14 --> 3.14 --> pi --> piE) Since this was my first year not being in the education system somehow, I decided that we needed to celebrate anyways.

So we got together some of my mommy friends and their spouses, got rid of the kids, and celebrated at our place with three pies, John Stewart, and ROCK BAND!!!


They were all awesome and could someday become rockstars if they wanted to. Seriously, they all got some SPUNK in them!


After that night, we decided that we shouldn't wait for pi day to roll around to celebrate like the good ol' college days - why not declare an official Hamburger Day or Potluck Day or Cake Day?? I think we're onto something. Thanks Andrus and Bradford clans. We had a blast.

yeah!! That was so fun. I am thinking we should do group date nights at least once a month. We could each take turns planning something. Because seriously, we need to get out more! So fun! Thanks for hosting.

I'm really glad that you celebrated pi day too! It's such a perfect holiday! I have a pi shirt, a pi onesie, and a pi shaped cookie cutter. It gets really nerdy at the Hughes Home. And I make others laugh.

Some Time Away in Paradise

Rex and I went to Maui, Hawaii together, just the two of us!  It's times like this when we get to see the value of him traveling so much - the plane trip and hotel were completely paid for with points.  Cha-ching!  Rex totally spoiled me too.  The Mariott we stayed in was fit for a king and queen - a humongous tub, fully stocked kitchen, big comfy bed, an amazing breakfast buffet every morning, a tropical paradise of pools and hot tubs and beautiful flowers every where... a girl could get used to this.   We spent the first night and morning cramming in some homework for our scuba-diving certification class.  The next 2 days were spent at the scuba shop and in the ocean, passing off drills and skills needed to not-die.  And good news.  We did not die and completely lost ourselves underwater looking at the beautiful fish and eels and turtles around us.  Okay, just one turtle.  But it was pretty memorable!  I didn...

So now that I have finally caught up with my blogging, I feel that I need to explain where I've been. This blog is mainly for journal purposes, so just ignore this post if it makes you uncomfortable. I've known that I've struggled with depression for five years now. I've been in some dark places in my life with horrible thoughts and temptations, but it's been under control for the most part. I've been "missing" for the past 2 months because I was slowly spiraling downwards without realizing it. True, I never had any suicidal thoughts this last time (maxing out your Zoloft should have SOME kind of effect) but I started losing interest in the things that usually make me happy. Blogging. Surrounded by Handsomeness

      We christened the new van by going on TWO road trips this month. The first was to Oklahoma (and I guess, technically, Branson, MO as well) and the next weekend was to Utah to celebrate Rex's sister's wedding! So so so happy for her and her new hubby.  We got our first picture as a family with EVERYONE wearing a suit, well, except me of course. What handsome men surround me!
