Trains and Trucks

Aiden LOVES trains. I would call it an obsession. We watch "Thomas the Train" every day, even though we try to keep it to a minimum. The first thing out of his mouth every morning is "Choo." ("Choo" means choo-choo-train.) We conveniently live by a railroad and can hear the trains' horns blaring at any time during the day or night. Anytime Aiden consciously hears it, he runs to the nearest window and shouts, "CHOO!!" with the biggest smile on his face.

At the beginning of the month, Rex took Aiden to a Train Expo in Denver. As you can imagine, Aiden was more than slightly thrilled. Rex said that when they walked in the room, Aiden's eyes got really big and gasped, "Choo? Choo! CHOO!" and almost hyperventilated from the train overdose.

If that weren't enough, today we went on a tour of the town's Fire Station with some other mommies. Firetrucks don't hold a candle to choo-choo-trains, but I still think Aiden had a good time. The firemen were really great - they let each of the kids take a turn "driving" the truck, extended the ladder, let them hold the hose, turned on the truck's red/blue swirling lights, and let them watch in awe as they slid down the pole.

Aiden was so captivated by all the switches, buttons, and cords in the firetruck. The steering wheel was so mundane compared to everything else!

I'm hoping we can spread his interests into other areas... hopefully firetrucks will stick. I'm getting tired of hearing, "CHOO!" all day long...!
