Overheard at Our House

This morning, I was in our office trying to plan out Sam's 3rd birthday party and was drawing a blank on the kids I could invite Sam's age.  Sam just happened to be in the same room at the time and so I asked him, "Sam, who is your favorite friend?"

Sam: He's at his home
Me: OK, but what's his name?
Sam: thinks hard for a few seconds then replies, Squirrel.

forget it.  Never ask a 3 year old who his friends are.  Lesson learned.

Rex was in charge of watching the boys while I took a nap (bless his heart) but was also very tired himself and laid down on the couch.  Maybe 15 minutes goes by with him blissfully half-sleeping and the boys playing nicely together.  When Rex wakes up, everything is covered in what appears to be chocolate pudding.  (No, this isn't a poop story.)  The boys wanted chocolate milk but didn't want to wake up Dad, so they took matters into their own hands apparently. When they saw the jug of milk and the Costco-size jug of Nesquick, they decided it would be much easier to poor the milk INTO the chocolate powder, instead of vice-verse, and THEN into the cups.  So Voila!  Chocolate pudding was born and strewn onto the floor, tables, bathroom (don't ask me how), couch, TV, and everywhere else possible for them to have touched in 15 minutes' time.

Aiden has a way of pulling at your heartstrings.  Maybe manipulative, maybe just plain sweet.  I can't decide.  Sometimes when I have scolded him for doing something naughty or keep telling him NO for something he wants, he'll give me a puppy dog look and then say, "Mom, you broke my heart!"

At bedtime after he's been tucked in to bed, he'll sneak out of his room and tell me that he wants cuddles.  If I'm too busy or tired or just kidded-out and say, "Not tonight," he'll sadly go to bed with his head hanging.  But guaranteed he'll come back in about 5-10 minutes and tell me, "But Mom, I NEEEEED cuddles!"  How can you refuse that? So I'll go to his room with him and cuddle him for a bit.  Then he puts his head close to mine and places a hand on my cheek and says, "You're my best friend, Mom." Awwwwww, I totally melt and end up cuddling for much longer than I intended.  So whether it's manipulation or not, I won't always be able to cuddle my little boy.  I'll go with 'just plain sweet' for now.

Sweet, Smart, and Manipulative are traits of a great Leader! (well, maybe . . . ) :) Either way your boys are adorable and if they weren't mischievious we wouldn't have such great stories to read!
