The Big FIVE
I don't know what it is about the age of 5 but, to my boys, it is HUGE. My mom came to visit while Rex was having his surgery done (more on that later) so it was PERFECT that she could stay for Sam's birthday as well. She spent his birthday morning filling up ~60 balloons with the air compressor so he and his brothers could pile them up at the bottom of the stairs and jump into them.
She even let him open up her present early right after his birthday breakfast (Lucky Charms, as was his choice in the cereal aisle.) Sam has always been a little lovebug with my mom. He absolutely adores her.
Later that evening, all the family came over (well Rex's side at least) and we had some birthday pizza and cake. Sam and Jaxon bust out the old Halloween costumes and played super heroes.
Even Cade got in the Super Hero Spirit! He growled and everything with his upside-down Hulk head on.
I just can't believe that my sweet little big-eyed, bug-eyed, premie baby is now FIVE years old! Sam has always been - in my dad's words - "A Great Dane in a Chihuahua body!" Sam keeps up with his older brother and tries so hard to be tough and strong. He's also a little sweet pea. Every night Sam asks me to sing him a song, but only after I count down backwards from ten (to give him time to get into bed,) and he's inside his blankets with his "blankie" tucked under his head. If any of these steps are missing, the song cannot continue. Sam is also very studious and meticulous. He colors and draws and writes stories in great detail that amaze me and his teachers alike. Sam also loves to play video games. I don't mind so much because playing video games for Sam is like jumping rope for two hours straight! He jumps and bounces right in front of the TV when things get tricky for him. It's adorable to watch. And one last thing I love about Sam, is how EXPRESSIVE he is with his face! He works those facial muscles to the extreme every time he talks, plays, and even colors - especially when he's coloring or writing! His tongue sticks out and curls and turns and scrunches up when he's concentrating. It makes me laugh - but nicely and quietly - every time I see him working.
See what I mean about his facial expressions?? That's his "I'm going to blow out these candles like I'm a living HURRICANE" face.
Sam was super excited to get a Lego Star Wars video game along with a Star Wars Lego set.
Sam asked for his favorite cake - Strawberry Texas Sheet Cake. He inhaled it. With flair!
Then after everyone left, he played his video game happily on the couch. (He got up to jump later.) Happy Birthday, Sambo! We love you!!!
