Gwamma and Gwampa's

Now on to the end of summer when we went to Oklahoma for July 4th. For lack of sleep and creativity, I'm going to give you the reader's digest version:  We flew.  We played.  We ate.  We blew things up.  And we left.  Happy. :)
Aiden and Sam were AWESOME on the airplane.  I think they're getting the hang of this.

The boys played in Gwamma's sandbox, building volcanoes and unearthing all sorts of dinosaurs and tractors.


And we swam pretty much every day, multiple times each day. Cade had different attire each time.

 Sam always gets so cold after swimming - even in 95 degree weather!

My mom served the boys and amazing mid-morning feast after one of our swim sessions.


Cade could not get enough of my mom's bran muffins!  Needless to say, he was quite regular the whole trip.


Cade REALLY liked the pudding.


The boys helped Gwamma make donuts.  There were all sorts of interesting shapes.  These boys really thought outside the circle.

We went to the skate park and rode our bikes one afternoon.


Sam showed his amazing acrobat skills on the swing set.

We decorated our tricycles and scooters for a July 4th parade at the church.

Uncle B serenaded Auntie Monica - King of the Foreeeeest style. (Wizard of Oz.)

And Uncle B also gave some luvins to Cade.

We giddy-upped at a Manda-Torrie Good Time RODEO!


The boys loved goofing with their cousin Austin


And their cousin Kimber.

Aiden spent quite a lot of time building all sorts of things with Legos.

And then came Rex's favorite part about this whole trip - blowing things up!


Rex let the boys take turns picking out which firecracker they wanted to set off next.  They loved it, of course.


This is my dad's face caught in the act of saying something about how firework punks are sissy and a real man needs a blowtorch to set fireworks off... or something like that. :)


Rex gladly acquiesced and gave us all quite the show, starting with a few black cats and showers after dinner and ending with a full-scale blow-your-socks-off show by night time.  The whole backyard was one ginormous firework.  It was AMAZING!

Sam Richard Phillips

Here we are: the excited, tired, relieved parents of lil' Sam the Man. For those of you who don't know and are interested, I had Sam 7 weeks early. We think it happened because I had a marginal placenta previa (prone to excessive bleeding) and I had pushed myself while packing and getting ready for the big move. I have a hard time taking things easy apparently... Sam had a hard time breathing in the beginning. Within just a few days, however, he made a championship comeback and went from being on the respirator, to the CPAP (shown), to just the little nose thing that gives oxygen (same thing old men have.) He also had to get fed from a tube through his nose starting on the 2nd day. As you can see here, though, he proved himself again and got the tube removed to eat normally. What a man! Would you look at that hair! It's so blond it almost looks gray. It's also more hair than his older brother Aiden has now. I just can't get over how tin...

**DISCLAIMER** If you do not have children or have a weak stomach or are deciding whether or not to have children... you probably shouldn't read this post. And if you've been wondering about my parenting skills from the last couple posts, this one doesn't help my repertoire. It all started when I wanted to have a "Good Mommy Moment" and made chocolate pudding with Aiden before his nap. I told him that as soon as he woke up, the pudding would be done. So I put Aiden and Sam both down for their afternoon naps. It didn't last long. First, Aiden never went to sleep so I got him out after an hour or so. I gave him his pudding at the table, determined to keep a close watch on him so he'd keep his pudding in the kitchen. Then Sam started screaming. I ran upstairs to find him crying in his crib... with sticky, brown poop EVERYWHERE... on all the rungs on his crib, on the sheets, on his blanket, on his stuffed animals, on his bottle, all over his legs and ...
