December Life
Here's a glimpse of what we did in December when it wasn't a festivity of some kind.

Sam liked to play Christmas carols with me on the piano. (Please ignore my frumpiness on this morning.)

We took a tour of the fire station with our church playgroup. Sam was very enthralled with this particular fireman. And what was Aiden doing in the meantime?? Sneaking up behind firemen - who didn't see him - and got whacked in the nose with the firetruck door. It was kinda funny because the fireman in the picture above was emphasizing to the kids that even though they may look scary with their equipment on, that they're friendly guys underneath and the kids shouldn't be scared of them if they ever see them in their homes. But then a fireman gives Aiden a bloody nose (on accident!) and Aiden won't go NEAR any of them after that. He totally freaked out when the fireman tried to make him feel better by telling him he could help take off his gloves. So much for public safety and preparation.
And here's Aiden throwing a temper tantrum after another play date at Chick-fil-A. I tied his balloon to his pant's belt loop since he kept letting go and losing each balloon he was given. That did not sit well with him. I really wonder what goes through his head sometimes. He was seriously traumatized. So much, in fact, that we had to leave because he would not calm down, even after removing the balloon. I took this picture and sent it to Rex to show him what he was missing out on.

And this is how Aiden spends most of his time these days - with his nose in the corner for time-out. It seems like there's always at least one kid screaming or in time-out. But I gotta admit, it still cracks me up watching him sulk away into the corner each time.
And Sam just keeps getting bigger and bigger. He's no longer the delicate, quiet preemie he was. Oh no, he's starting to pick up a few tricks from his older brother now. I've had to start putting sweet little Sam in time-outs lately because he was beating up Aiden! And winning!!! I love his mischievous personality that's developing.
I don't know what I was thinking, but I had this perfect solution in my head for keeping the ornaments safe this year. I put up a small, 4-foot tree just for the boys to decorate and then a big real tree for the pretty or memorable ornaments for us. Turns out toddlers could care less which tree is "theirs." I had to keep repeating my mother's words in my head over and over at moments like this: "Christmas is for kids. Christmas is for kids. Christmas is for kids!"
