Happy 2nd Birthday, Sam!

Before I start on the blessed occasion, may I just take this time to say how INSANELY cute Sam is?? This kid loves to wear hats. And hats on kids are adorable.



Some things Sam likes doing at this age: keeping up with Aiden, coloring, riding his bike, giving sound effects to any inanimate object, playing peeak-a-boo behind my back, giving the sweetest meltiest hugs, help momma cook!, practicing sitting on the potty, pointing out any dog within earshot, storing food in his cheeks for hours at a time, giving raspberries on your cheek, playing the piano with a surprisingly detailed sound, and eating popsicles at lightening speed.



Some things Sam says best: Bye, hot, too high, hold me, dog, OW!, III-YEE! (Aiden), shoes, NNNNNNNNNNNNo!, Uh-huh, bike, "ap-poh" (apple), "oppy!" (happy), My! (mine), night-night, "Nul" (milk), Yee pause HAW!, We're here!, Yaaaaaay (very low and unenthusiastically at the end of prayers and songs), Bwee! (blankie), "MomME!", Daddy!", eye, nose, "ED!" (head), and pretty much anything he'll try to mimic.



So now for the actual birthday celebration. We started the day off with tons of balloons scattered all over the downstairs like we did last year. Sam loved kicking the balloons while making a "Thfsh!" sound effect to go with it.







Then we went to a fun park that had a sand pit with a water pump built into it with some fun toys. Sam got to open one gift early that just so happened to be a sand bucket kit. Grandma and Grandpa Phillips and Auntie Marti joined us in the park for some pizza, grapes, and cheeseballs. All the things in life a 2-year-old loves.



We're so proud of our little Calvin Klein model in the making.





Then we went back to Grandma's place and had our (ahem) "cake" experience with presents. Aiden was there for Sam every step of the way from blowing out his candles to opening his presents. What a sweet, helpful brother!



Sam got a popper pusher, bike, water table, and a Slip-n-Slide complete with water guns. What a great birthday! WE LOVE YOU SAM!!!

Some Time Away in Paradise

Rex and I went to Maui, Hawaii together, just the two of us!  It's times like this when we get to see the value of him traveling so much - the plane trip and hotel were completely paid for with points.  Cha-ching!  Rex totally spoiled me too.  The Mariott we stayed in was fit for a king and queen - a humongous tub, fully stocked kitchen, big comfy bed, an amazing breakfast buffet every morning, a tropical paradise of pools and hot tubs and beautiful flowers every where... a girl could get used to this.   We spent the first night and morning cramming in some homework for our scuba-diving certification class.  The next 2 days were spent at the scuba shop and in the ocean, passing off drills and skills needed to not-die.  And good news.  We did not die and completely lost ourselves underwater looking at the beautiful fish and eels and turtles around us.  Okay, just one turtle.  But it was pretty memorable!  I didn...

Mist of Darkness

So now that I have finally caught up with my blogging, I feel that I need to explain where I've been. This blog is mainly for journal purposes, so just ignore this post if it makes you uncomfortable. I've known that I've struggled with depression for five years now. I've been in some dark places in my life with horrible thoughts and temptations, but it's been under control for the most part. I've been "missing" for the past 2 months because I was slowly spiraling downwards without realizing it. True, I never had any suicidal thoughts this last time (maxing out your Zoloft should have SOME kind of effect) but I started losing interest in the things that usually make me happy. Blogging. Surrounded by Handsomeness

      We christened the new van by going on TWO road trips this month. The first was to Oklahoma (and I guess, technically, Branson, MO as well) and the next weekend was to Utah to celebrate Rex's sister's wedding! So so so happy for her and her new hubby.  We got our first picture as a family with EVERYONE wearing a suit, well, except me of course. What handsome men surround me!
